Orquesta La Leyenda
is a traditional Latin big band performing “old
school” Latin dance music. It has its roots in the repertoire
of the bands from Havana and New York City that thrived during
those exciting times when America first became enthralled by the
music of its Latin American neighbors. The music was played by
small combos, by medium-sized conjuntos, or by big bands. These
bands played the hotels, resorts and dance halls where America
learned to dance the Mambo, Guaracha, Rumba, and
Cha-Cha-Cha, and witnessed Tango dancing for the
first time. The bands brought an element from the streets of
Spanish Harlem with them — where a rhythm that is insatiable in
urging its listeners to dance until the sun is well into the sky
was born — Salsa!
When you
are dancing to La Leyenda, you are enjoying the
energy of musicians who have a great reverence for this music,
the musicians who played it, and its roots. We are honored to keep alive the traditions that are at the
root of so much of the Latin music that still flourishes today.
When the party gets wound up and no one wants to stop dancing,
you'll know that La Leyenda has done it again. You
have been transported back to an era where bands like La
Leyenda could keep you dancing all night.
